My reason for falling madly in love with is two-fold. First, my savior (our beloved Design*Droits-Humains copy editor) suggested it as a Living In possibility. I am immortally indebted to this girl and knew I had to do it regardless of how great the film was, seeing that she saves me every week from especially embarrassing grammar gaffes. Second, next week I fly off to Paris for the first time in almost 10 years and I have that French je ne sais quoi on the brain, big time.

Breathless is Jean-Luc Godard’s pivotal 1960 New Wave classic about a petty criminal who shoots a police officer, falls in love with an American woman in Paris and tries to convince her to run away with him to Italy. The dialog and cinematography have a pulsing energy and it’s impossible not to become bewitched by Godard’s vision of Paris. Jean Seberg (in the role that inspired a million haircuts) is absolute charm personified and wears stripes like no other. On my quick Parisian séjour, I will totally take a page from her chic American-in-Paris book. —
