One of the very best parts of my job is finding out that people I admire and support as businesses are equally awesome as people. So when I sat down to talk with Jess Eddy and Crista Freeman of , I was beyond excited to discover that they are every bit as fun and cool as the ice cream they make. I’ve been secretly enjoying way too many pints of their ice cream for months now, because it’s stocked front and center in my local grocery store. Thanks to their creative culinary minds, I follow just about every (pizza) dinner with their Dark and ice cream swirled together in a giant bowl. Yep, I’m healthy.
Crista and Jess happen to live and work in the same neighborhood as D*S, so we shared a car to the radio station last week to talk about everything from growing up in the south and Ice Cream University (it’s real) to the challenges of creating new flavors and maintaining costs and production efficiency. There is so much more that goes into creating a successful (and all-natural) ice cream business than I imagined, so after talking with them, I am doubly impressed with all they’ve done since launching in 2010. Whether you’re looking to launch a food business or just want to be inspired by the story of two people taking the leap (and leaving full-time jobs) to pursue their passion, their interview is definitely a must-listen. It’s also possibly my favorite of the season so far. My suggestion would be to and enjoy it while listening to the show. Amy’s favorite combo is Peanutty Pretzel + Dark Chocolate Salty Caramel. But you really can’t go wrong with any of their . Thanks so much to Jess & Crista for joining me and to everyone for listening. xo, grace
