The majority of my winter activities are about staying indoors and avoiding the actual weather that comes with winter. But for today’s Holiday Escape, we thought it would be fun to actually get outside a bit and enjoy the snow. Brooklyn has been covered in snow for days now, but yesterday we got the softest coating of super-light snow that was perfect for snowball fights, snow angels and- if you’re Hope- just good old fashioned running around. To sweeten the outdoor fun, we decided to make our own winter drinks and bring them in thermoses for when our hands (and stomachs) needed a little warming. You can check out the full recipes, and more photos of our day in the snow, after the jump! xo, grace

-1 bottle of red wine (Good bets are a young Merlot, Burgundy, Petite Syrah, Tempranillo, or a Beaujolais)
-1/4 cup of Snap (http://www.artintheage.com/spirits-landing/snap/#)
-1/4 cup honey
-2 cinnamon sticks
-1 peeled and sliced orange
Combine ingredients in a saucepan. Simmer on low heat for 15 minutes. Strain and serve.
-3 cups of apple juice
-1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
-4 shots (a bit more than half a cup) of Irish Whiskey
-3 cinnamon sticks
Heat apple juice and spices in a pot on the stove. Once hot (close to boiling), remove from heat, give the juice a stir and let the spices infuse. The spices may appear to be clumping at the start, but after cooling for 5 minutes, they will settle to the bottom of the mix. Add whiskey and reheat to serve.
