Before we wrap up and head out for the weekend (we’ll be back on Tuesday, after the holiday, with regular content), I wanted to share some news about an excellent design conference happening in Boston next month. Organized by the African American Student Union (AASU) at the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD), will, “recognize the contributions of African Descendants to the design fields and to broaden our definition of what it means to be a designer.” This two-day event, taking place on October 9th and 10th, will feature a seriously impressive range of speakers who will be talking about their experiences in design, but also about the responsibility of everyone in design to “build just and equitable spaces at every scale.”

This touches on a number of very important issues for our community right now, including acknowledging and celebrating the contributions of black designers and architects, and also talking about ways in which all members of the creative community can work to make housing (from planning to executing) fair, safe and available for everyone. We talk a lot about how to make homes beautiful here, but it’s important to talk about making them available for everyone, too. We’re happy to be one of the sponsors for this great event and hope that you’ll consider joining us for this incredible 2-day event. You can click to read more about the Black in Design conference and pick up a ticket. Hope to see you in Boston! xo, grace
