DIY Winter Clay Coasters

by Sam Ushiro

ClayCoasters2

As someone who loves holiday decorations, I go crazy every year decorating my whole living space in banners, bows, and figurines. Since I basically replace all of my normal housewares during this season, I’m always on the lookout for fun, new items I can DIY to add to my space. So with today’s project, I wanted to show you a really easy way to DIY some winter coasters with just a little bit of clay and some cookie cutters! Why use normal coasters during the holidays when you can use themed ones instead? Find the full how-to after the jump, and get the kiddos in on this project, too — it’s a fun one! —

Supplies

-Snowflake and tree cookie cutters
-Oven-dry clay in blue, green, silver, and white
-Rolling pin
-Parchment paper
-Cookie baking sheet

How-To

Step 1: Put down a sheet of parchment paper. Create a ball of white clay and add blue clay to it. Mold the clay a little in your hands to create a marbled effect.

Step 2: Using a rolling pin, roll out the clay to 1/4″ thick.

Step 3: With a cookie cutter, cut out a snowflake in the clay.

Step 4: Follow the instructions on your clay for the correct temperature settings at which to bake. I baked mine for 5 minutes at 275 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before use.
