Crowns of Color + Best of the Web

by Grace Bonney

All week I’ve been running back and forth between the city and upstate NY for exciting fall projects related to (out on October 4th!), and all I’ve wanted to do this week is collapse into the sofa with Julia and our pets. This morning, I indulged in a little bonding time with our first dog, Hope, and ended up goofing around on Snapchat attempting to put the silly crown on her head. I ended up snapping a pic with the flower crown, but no luck with the regular one. But that got me thinking about an old series of prints I loved from . These screen prints celebrated women of color looking regal and amazing, surrounded by beautiful patterns and colors. The series isn’t available for sale anymore, but this series still makes me smile and feels like a positive image to focus on when the world news is anything but. Here’s hoping everyone has a safe and happy weekend. xo, grace

  • Rolling Hills: , feel like visual meditation.
  • Support Indie: It’s sadly no surprise when a huge box store rips off an indie designer, but I’m thrilled to see get so much attention and support. She’s got a pro-bono lawyer backing her up, and I’m so hopeful this is the example case the industry may need to finally realize they shouldn’t knock off indie designers’ — or anyone’s — work.
  • Yum: These (drinks and food) from Leela Cyd look amazing.
  • Down Under: is an amazing celebration of pattern. One day, Australia…I will find a way (and the budget) to visit.
  • Beep Sleep: I would have loved as a kid. Or as an adult…
  • Behind the Scenes: We filmed the trailer for our new book this week! It was a whirlwind day, but what fun!
