and her husband were never planning on moving their family three-and-a-half years ago. It sort of just happened, as these things do. When Sarah saw a home for sale in their town of Marblehead, MA, she had a few sleepless nights left wide awake thinking about it. They decided to have a look at it. “It was outrageously dated with dark wood throughout, shag carpet — the works! But was oozing with potential. I also noticed the owner had dog figurines in every room and we are dog lovers. It just seemed like someplace I could envision living forever,” Sarah shares. Taking pen to paper, Sarah set out and wrote a letter to the woman selling the home, sharing about their twin girls, the family dogs, what they envisioned for the home in the way of renovations, but also what they planned to preserve. That letter was enough to seal the deal and sent the Crawfords packing for the move to their forever home. “The entire process had a ‘meant to be’ feeling,” Sarah says.
Intending to stick to the promise that she made to the former owner of their home, Sarah made some changes while still holding onto the charm of the 1920 bungalow. Lightening up the home, removing the carpet, refinishing the floors, and painting all the walls were the main fixes, from the beginning. “Our goal is to have a home that is welcoming and that speaks volumes about who lives here. While some people base their decor choices on ‘not getting sick of something,’ I tend to make decisions by ‘not being bored by something,’ Sarah says, leading to a bright interior with lots of color. Sarah is an executive director with and a blogger who works from home. “I need an inspiring yet functional environment for my workspace,” she notes. While Sarah and Chris have many other changes to make to their home — for example, their dream kitchen — they’re in no rush. I think they’re off to a great start. —
