CRWN Magazine + Best of the Web

by Grace Bonney

For the past six months I’ve been spending just about every waking moment working on our new bi-annual magazine, which hits stands this May. It’s been the most challenging project I’ve ever worked on and it has been one learning experience after the other. So my respect and admiration for people running independent magazines has grown tenfold and it makes me even more excited to see people launching publications that have something new and different to say.

This week I wanted to celebrate the newest issue of , all about LOVE. CRWNMAG is a beautifully photographed, written, and designed magazine that celebrates the lives and careers of Black women. In addition to just plain excellent content, the magazine has a policy that makes my heart sing. They explain, “We don’t trade on celebrity. We don’t cast models. We work with real women from the neighborhood. Our objective is to represent the beauty of Black women by showcasing their diversity.”

One of the things I love most about the new wave of print magazines, zines and journals popping up is that more and more of them are embracing people who look like more of us. People with different body types, abilities, ages, gender identities, etc. Seeing a greater percentage of the creative community — and our world community at large — represented is such an important change.

The newest issue of CRWNMAG is all about love and not just what it means to love someone else, but more importantly, what it means to love yourself. I can’t wait to start building my collection and supporting this beautiful magazine. You can check it out , on , or . Until Monday, have a safe and happy weekend. xo, Grace
